China has imposed sanctions against 20 defense-related companies in the United States and 10 high-ranking executives in response to Washington‘s proposed arms sales to Taiwan.

The sanctions were announced on Friday, just a week after the US unveiled a significant weapons package for Taiwan valued at over $10 billion.

According to China’s foreign ministry, the companies affected will have their assets in China frozen, and Chinese individuals and organizations are prohibited from engaging in business with them.

The sanctioned executives are also barred from entering China.

Among the companies listed are Northrop Grumman Systems Corporation, L3Harris Maritime Services, and Boeing in St. Louis. Palmer Luckey, the founder of Anduril Industries, is one of the executives targeted by these sanctions.

China stated that this action is a response to what it views as the US’s reckless behavior in supplying arms to Taiwan.

Beijing maintains that Taiwan is part of China and should ultimately be under its control.

The Chinese government emphasized that the Taiwan issue is central to its national interests and described it as a red line in US-China relations.

If approved by the US Congress, the proposed arms sale would represent the largest weapons package ever offered to Taiwan.

China also accused the US of breaching diplomatic agreements and escalating tensions in the region.

Taiwan continues to be a significant point of contention between the two superpowers. In recent years, China has increased its military activities around the island, including frequent naval and air force exercises.

Under US law, Washington is obligated to assist Taiwan in its self-defense, a stance that further complicates the already strained relations between the two nations over trade, technology, and human rights issues.
