Renowned Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and her husband, Ivara Esege, are mourning the loss of their son, Nkanu Nnamdi, who died at the age of 21 months.
The child reportedly passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, after a brief illness.
The sad development was confirmed in a statement issued by Adichie’s Communications Team and signed by Omawumi Ogbe.

According to the statement, the family described the loss as devastating and appealed to the public and the media to respect their privacy during this difficult period.
“They ask for prayers and understanding as they grieve privately,” the statement said, adding that no further comments will be made.
The family also expressed appreciation to the public and media for honouring their request for privacy as they mourn their late son.
