Comrade Warri Ovoke Friday, Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area, has delivered a message urging parents and society to place children’s welfare at the forefront of family and community priorities. He said this during the Children day celebration event, held at the Oleh Township Stadium, which drew crowds of excited children, parents, educators, and cultural performers.

Speaking during the ceremony on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, Warri declared that the well-being, moral values, and cultural upbringing of children must be considered a legacy of immeasurable value. He emphasized that nurturing and safeguarding young minds is not just a civic responsibility but a moral obligation.

“It is a pleasure to witness yet another Children’s Day celebration. This day is one of my favourites of the year, as it affords us the opportunity to honour and cherish the young minds in our various communities,” he said, addressing the crowd.

Warri, who has become known for his grassroots development approach and advocacy for youth empowerment, used the occasion to draw attention to the impact of modern parenting on child development. He urged parents to be mindful of what their children wear and consume in terms of values and entertainment, warning that indecent dressing can erode societal norms and moral balance.

“Our children are our future, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure they receive everything necessary to thrive and succeed,” he noted. “We must raise them with discipline, pride in their culture, and the knowledge that they are the leaders of tomorrow.”

The celebration featured a rich blend of cultural heritage and school pride, with over 51 public primary schools and several secondary schools participating in an impressive match pass. The event climaxed with traditional dances from primary school children, adult learners, and students from special needs institutions, all showcasing the beauty and unity of Isoko culture.

St. Michael’s College, Oleh, claimed the top prize in the secondary school march parade, closely followed by Solution Secondary School and Otobosa Secondary School. In the primary school category, Isoko Central School, Oleh, took first place, ahead of Itimi Primary School, Irri, and Odoro Primary School, Oleh. Cultural dance honours went to Uzih Primary School, with Odoro Primary School also receiving recognition for its outstanding performance.

As gifts and medals were presented, the excitement and sense of pride among students and teachers were palpable. The entire event served not only as a celebration of childhood but also as a clarion call for a united commitment to child development in Isoko South and across Nigeria.
