The former President-General of Enhwe Community in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, Chief Michael Ogodo, has donated 120 classroom chairs valued at millions of naira to the Enhwe Comprehensive High School, Enhwe, to improve the learning conditions of students.

The donation follows recent public concerns raised on social media within the Isoko Nation that students of the school were sitting on bare floors during classes due to the shortage of furniture.

This is not the first time Chief Ogodo has supported schools in the community. About five years ago, in collaboration with Enhwe indigenes in the diaspora, he donated chairs worth millions of naira to the Oviota Primary School, Enhwe.

Speaking in a telephone interview with The Trumpet correspondent, Chief Ogodo described his relationship with Enhwe Comprehensive High School as longstanding and deeply personal.

“This should be about the fifth time I am donating chairs to the school. Between 2015 and 2019, I personally employed English Language and mathematics teachers and paid their salaries,” he said.

He added that education played a major role in shaping his life and success.

“It is education that shaped my life. I do not joke with education. God brought me from Enhwe for a purpose, and I believe giving back through education is the best way to serve my community,” he stated.

Chief Ogodo also urged the students to take their studies seriously and ensure proper care of the newly donated chairs and other school facilities.

Receiving the items on behalf of the school, the Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Council, Friday Warri, who is an old boy of the school, expressed his appreciation to the donor for his generosity.

He noted that though Chief Ogodo is not a politician, he has chosen to use his resources to positively impact the lives of students in the community.

The council chairman encouraged the students to make good use of the chairs and avoid any acts that could lead to their damage.

Principal of Enhwe Comprehensive High School, Mr. Ilah Jonathan, commended Chief Ogodo for responding to the urgent needs of the school.

However, he highlighted ongoing security challenges facing the institution, revealing that hoodlums and thieves have been vandalising and stealing school property.

The principal appealed to the local government council and community stakeholders to assist in constructing lodges for the principal and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to enable them reside within the school premises for improved security and supervision.

Among those present at the presentation ceremony were the Secretary to the Local Government Council, Mr. Zino Osuofa, Vice President-General of Enhwe Clan Development Association, Prince Isaac Ohoror, and other community leaders.
