Goal by Levi Colwill granted Chelsea a crucial yet tense victory at Nottingham Forest, securing their spot in next season’s Champions League.

Despite the loss, Nottingham Forest qualified for the Conference League.

Colwill’s strike in the second half ensured Enzo Maresca’s team ended the Premier League season in fourth place, dashing Forest’s dreams of European competition.

Chelsea is now set to focus on the Champions League – a goal that was both anticipated and necessary, with Maresca indicating that their transfer plans will hinge on their participation in next season’s tournaments.

This win also provided a solid foundation for the upcoming Conference League final against Real Betis in Poland on Wednesday.

For Forest, it was a letdown after barely escaping relegation last season, but even with a missed chance at a top-five finish, finishing seventh represents a successful campaign.

Securing just two victories in their last eight matches caused them to slip from a position in the top four, and they will now compete in the Conference League, marking their return to the top tier after a 23-year absence.

The team concluded the season without a win in their last four home games and struggled to regain their former performance levels, as a matchup that promised excitement failed to deliver.

Although it was an engaging encounter, it didn’t feature the climactic intensity of a shootout for a Champions League spot.

In the first half, Pedro Neto and Chris Wood both missed the target, but the game picked up when Colwill netted from close range just five minutes into the second half.

The home side was unable to equalize – their efforts lacked the necessary quality, with Wood shooting over in stoppage time, missing their best opportunity.

Forest put forth maximum effort but ultimately fell short. The disappointment felt in recent weeks should not overshadow the positive transformation the club has undergone, marking a return to Europe for the first time since 1996.

Fatigue seemed to set in during the final weeks, impacting a team that had looked poised for a Champions League spot back in March.

While it might be tempting to view the season through a lens of recent disappointments, spreading the results throughout the entire year makes finishing in seventh a remarkable achievement.

Nuno Espirito Santo has fostered a cooperative squad that exhibits strong teamwork on the field.

Chelsea celebrated a key victory at the City Ground, with Colwill’s goal securing their success.

The team, featuring its youngest starting eleven, is aiming for Champions League qualification and potential European trophy success, marking a turnaround in fortunes.
