Inter Milan were defeated by the English Premier League side, Liverpool, in a reunion match between Edin Dzeko and Mohamed Salah in Italy yesterday.

The match played in Giuseppe Meazza was highly intense with both teams struggling with a couple of misses at goal.

Inter Milan struggled to curtail the trio attacking pace of Liverpool’s Diogo Jota, Sadio Mane, and Mohamed Salah while exploiting the versatility of Ivan Perisic in the left attacking wing to get perfect breakthroughs.

Mane had two chances to put the visitors ahead in the first half but could not control it properly as one went above the crossbar and the other was away from the goal.

Inter created a golden opportunity to take the lead when Ivan Perisic’s left-wing cross met Hakan Calhanoglu who hit the bar from a difficult angle.

Liverpool and Inter tried all means to break the deadlock in an almost proportionate statistical possession of the game but could not until halftime.

At the start of the second half, Roberto Firmino substituted Diogo Jota in the 45th minute of play while in the 47th minute Inter Marcelo Brozovic missed an attempt assisted by Ivan Perisic to the left.

Liverpool in the 59th minute, made triple substitutions as new recruit Luiz Diaz replaced Sadio Mane, Jordan Henderson replaced Fabinho and Naby Keita substituted Harvey Elliot.

In 67 minutes, Luiz Diaz missed an assist provided by Henderson while Inter Milan made their first substitution as Alexis Sánchez replaced Lautaro Martínez in the 70th minute.

Firmino, in the 75th minute, broke the deadlock through a header to the left-hand side of the goal post after he got on the cross of Andrew Robertson from a corner.

Mohamed Salah doubled the lead in the 83rd minute through a set-piece mix-up in the penalty box.

Inter in the 87th minute made four changes with Roberto Galiardini coming in for Arturo Vidal, Matteo Darmian replacing Denzel Dumfries, Andrea Ranocchia for Stefan de Vrij and Federico Dimarco replacing Alessandro Bastoni.

The substitution could hardly make a turnaround as the game ended 2-0.

Elsewhere, Bayern Munich drew with Red Bull Salzburg in Switzerland yesterday.

Red Bull Salzburg through substitute Chukwubuike Adamu, who replaced the injured Noah Okafor 12 minutes after kickoff, scored in the 21st minute to put the host ahead.

Bayern tried all through the first half but could not get an equaliser with rued chances.

Both teams made two changes each in the second half with Bayern bringing in Jean-Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting for Serge Gnabry, (77th minute) and M. Sabitzer replaced Tolisso (80th minute) while N. Seiwald was replaced by L. Sucic in 80 minutes and K. Adeyemi and replaced by M. Kjaergaard in the 87 minutes for Red Bull Salzburg.

Kingsley Coman of FC Bayern München finally got the equaliser by an assist from Thomas Muller as his left-footed shot past Red Bull Salzburg Philipp Koehn.

The game ended in a one-all draw. Moreover, the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 for the ties between Liverpool versus Inter Milan and FC Bayern München vs Red Bull Salzburg will be played on March 10, next month.
