The Courageous Girls, Women and Children Initiative (CGWCI) is celebrating a major milestone; two uninterrupted years of solar-powered electricity at the Oleh Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.
This feat, achieved through CGWCI’s Green Energy Project in partnership with the Delta State Government, MitchelEE Engineering Ltd, and the Elomaz Foundation, has transformed healthcare delivery at the facility since the installation of a 2.5kVA solar system on May 5, 2023.
The project’s impact goes beyond just lighting up a building. According to CGWCI Founder and CEO, Ms. Ayovuata Courage Uyoyou, the introduction of constant power supply has significantly improved services at the PHC, especially in maternal and child healthcare, emergency treatment, and support for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). She noted that reliable electricity has enhanced night-time operations and created a safer, more efficient environment for both patients and healthcare workers.
But the success story doesn’t end there. The solar installation was carried out by young Deltans trained through CGWCI’s 2022/2023 Green Energy Project cohort. These youths, aged 18 to 35, gained hands-on skills in solar energy installation and maintenance, empowering them to pursue careers or start businesses in the renewable energy sector.

“This project stands at the intersection of clean energy, quality healthcare, and youth empowerment,” Ms. Ayovuata said. “We’re proving that sustainable development is not just a buzzword—it’s a tangible reality when we invest in people and communities.”
She expressed heartfelt appreciation to project partners and paid tribute to her late father, Mr. Ogero Richard Ayovuata, and her mother, Mrs. Hope Orevaoghene Ayovuata, for their support. Special recognition also went to the Matron of the PHC, Mrs. Aforke Atedezi, who confirmed that the solar system has made a remarkable difference in service delivery.
For CGWCI, the two-year mark is not just a celebration of consistent power, it’s a testament to what’s possible when local vision meets purposeful collaboration. As CGWCI looks ahead, the organization remains committed to expanding this model to other communities in Delta State, ensuring more residents benefit from clean energy, skilled youth, and improved healthcare services.
