The CGC Volleyball Championship took an unexpected turn on Friday after organisers announced that all Day 5 matches scheduled for Saturday, December 6, would be put on hold. The decision followed a collective request from players who will gather for what has been described as a rare and decisive meeting.
The session is expected to bring together athletes from all 22 registered teams. It will be the first time the competition’s players have convened in such a unified manner, raising anticipation across the volleyball community.
Moments after the final match of Day 4, which saw the Correctional Service men’s team face Nigeria Customs, the president of the players’ union, Sagent Dauda, shared details of the planned gathering with The Trumpet. He said the meeting would give players room to outline their concerns before forwarding them to the Nigeria Volleyball Association for action.

According to Dauda, several unresolved issues within the volleyball federation continue to affect players, and the meeting has become necessary to chart a clear path forward. He said the aim was not only to push for solutions but also to safeguard the welfare of the athletes.
Day 4 ended with a heated contest as the Correctional Service side and Nigeria Customs traded points throughout the match. The encounter was one of the closest of the tournament so far, with Customs edging out the win by a single point in the final moments.
