The Gombe State Police Command has confirmed the death of a casual staff member at the Gombe Government House and the arrest of a suspect in connection with the incident.
According to the police, the incident occurred on December 26, 2025, when officers received a distress report around 3:50 p.m. that a male adult, identified as Mallam Umar, also known as “Baba Usama,” had been found unconscious within the Government House premises.
The deceased, as stated by the police, was a casual worker employed as a borehole operator.
“He was rushed to the Specialist Hospital in Gombe, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead. His body was later deposited at the hospital mortuary for an autopsy”.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Umar Ahmed Chuso, visited the scene and ordered a comprehensive investigation”, the statement read.

Police said preliminary inquiries, including a review of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage from the Government House, indicated that the deceased was assaulted before his death.
Investigators identified a 19-year-old casual watchman, Shuaibu Adamu, also known as “Yaya Mama,” who works with a construction company handling projects at the Government House, as the prime suspect.
The suspect reportedly fled the scene after the incident.
Police said the suspect was tracked and arrested later that night at about 11:00 p.m. at a location in Bagadaza Quarters, Gombe.
During initial questioning, he allegedly confessed to the offence.
The suspect is currently in police custody while investigations continue to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
The police have assured the public that the case will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted in line with the law.
The Gombe State Police Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring safety within government facilities and delivering justice in the matter.
