Canon has officially launched the PowerShot V1, a game-changing compact camera designed for content creators who prioritize video. This latest addition to the PowerShot lineup comes packed with features that redefine vlogging, live streaming, and high-quality video recording.
The PowerShot V1 boasts a cutting-edge wide-angle zoom lens paired with Canon’s latest Type 1.4 sensor, making it an essential tool for video enthusiasts. It introduces a brand-new “moods” feature that customizes video aesthetics, alongside a product demo mode that ensures swift autofocus on objects held close to the camera. A built-in cooling fan allows uninterrupted 4K/60p recording for over two hours, solving the overheating issues that often plague compact cameras.
Canon announced the PowerShot V1 ahead of the CP+ Photography Show in Yokohama, Japan, where more details are expected to be unveiled. Currently, Canon Japan lists the camera at 148,500 yen (approximately $990), with an initial launch set for Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan in late April 2025. However, global availability, including a U.S. release date, remains unconfirmed.
For photography enthusiasts, the PowerShot V1 captures 22.3-megapixel still images at an impressive 15 frames per second with a mechanical shutter, or up to 30fps using its electronic shutter. When recording 10-bit video at 4K/30p, the full width of the sensor is utilized. However, at 4K/60p, a 1.4x sensor crop is applied to reduce processing demands and heat generation.
The V1’s 16-50mm equivalent f/2.8-4.5 wide-angle zoom lens is complemented by Canon’s advanced Dual Pixel AF II system, borrowed from the high-end EOS R6 Mark II. This system enhances autofocus capabilities, enabling precise subject tracking, image stabilization, and automatic detection of people, vehicles, animals, and even individual pupils.

Unlike traditional cameras, the PowerShot V1 forgoes an electronic viewfinder, relying instead on a three-inch vari-angle LCD touchscreen for navigation and framing. It seamlessly connects to smartphones via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or USB-C through the Canon Connect app. Additionally, the V1 functions as a USB webcam without requiring adapters, making it a versatile tool for video conferencing and streaming.
Other key features include a multi-function hot shoe for external flashes, a three-stop ND filter, a headphone and microphone jack, HDMI output, and a single SD card slot. With its advanced sensor, seamless connectivity, and professional-grade video capabilities, the PowerShot V1 is set to become a must-have for modern content creators.
