Cameroonian goalkeeper André Onana has been surprisingly omitted from the national team squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), according to the squad list released ahead of the tournament.
The Trabzonspor keeper, who has been a key player for the Indomitable Lions in recent years, was not selected by the newly appointed head coach, David Pagou.
Onana’s exclusion is notable, especially alongside the absence of long-time captain Vincent Aboubakar from the traveling squad to Morocco.
In contrast, Manchester United forward Bryan Mbeumo has been included, enhancing Cameroon’s attacking capabilities as they ramp up preparations for the competition starting on December 21.

This change follows the dismissal of coach Marc Brys and the hiring of David Pagou, an experienced Cameroonian football coach and physical education instructor.
As a five-time AFCON champion, Cameroon aims to reclaim its status on the continental stage after a series of disappointing performances.
Under Marc Brys, the team failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
