A fresh wave of advocacy for the elevation of Rogo District in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba’ State to a graded chiefdom is gathering momentum, following a passionate appeal by Prof. Mustapha Ibi at a landmark community event.
The call was made during the 30th anniversary celebration of the Sarkin Hausawa of Takum, Alhaji Hudu Madugu.
Prof. Ibi, a respected academic, emphasized the importance of formally recognizing Rogo as a chiefdom, describing it as a crucial step towards grassroots development, improved governance, and enhanced security.
“Upgrading Rogo to a chiefdom would not only bring government closer to the people, but also spur economic opportunities and strengthen local security through support for community watch groups,” he said.
The university don described the elevation as a transformative step that will benefit all demographics, the youth, the elderly, women, and all the ethnic, religious groups in the district by fostering inclusion and stability.
Prof. Ibi praised the Sarkin Hausawa’s leadership, urging residents to rally behind his vision of unity and progress.
“This move will contribute to building the Rogo of our dreams—one that plays a vital role in the broader development of Takum and Taraba State at large,” Ibi added.
Backing the call was the Chairman of the Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC), Chief Philip Duwe, who highlighted the Hausa community’s role in promoting peace in Takum.
Commending their efforts in avoiding conflict, he urged other ethnic groups to emulate their example, stressing that sustainable peace is the bedrock of any meaningful development.
