More aspirants have continued to declare their interest to jostle for the vacant post of Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency.

A recent of such aspirants that on Thursday signified his intentions to join the race, is the Taraba State Commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr. David Kassa.

The seat as noticed, became vacant following the demise of the member-elect for the aforementioned constituency, Ismaila Maihanchi.

Maihanchi, it would be recalled fell ill shortly after he emerged victorious at the just concluded general election, the situation which led to his untimely death.

It could also be recalled that Kassa contested the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary election for Taraba North Senatorial zone in the just-concluded election but failed to sail through.

His intentions to jostle for the post which has been declared vacant, was made known in Jalingo when youths drawn from the three local government councils that make up the constituency stormed his apartment in the state capital.

The youths in their numbers led by David Edan, expressed their commitment to work round the nooks and crannies of the constituency to mount pressure on the commissioner to contest the forthcoming by-election.

They extolled his leadership qualities and called on him to run for the election, adding that his services were needed most at this time in the constituency.

Edan said the people of Zing have agreed to support Kassa from Yorro for the seat and called on the people of Jalingo to do the same in the interest of fairness and balance.

Elated by the clarion call, the commissioner said “I have heard your call. I have also received calls from various groups and stakeholders who want me to run for the seat. On my part, I have also consulted widely with all the stakeholders.”

Adding that “I want to announce to you that I have accepted your call. I have also accepted the call of our women, support groups, and traditional and opinion leaders who want me to represent them at this time in the green chamber of the National Assembly. ”

“The people of Jalingo/Yorro/Zing” as made known by him “deserve good leadership both at the state and national level and I represent that voice and leadership that would drive the needed positive change in the area.”

If given the mandate, he vowed to work closely with the PDP-led government at the State level and bring the much-needed dividends of democracy to the people of Jalingo/Yorro/Zing, and the state at large.

At the last count, several persons among which includes the Permanent Secretary, Bureau for Local Government, and Chieftaincy Affairs, among others, were observed to have begun to brace up to jostle for the vacant post.
