The legislative arm of the Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, on Monday, impeached its Leader, Ekereke Bibobra, alongside the Deputy Leader, Akpososo Brigila, and another councillor, Azigbeotu Samson.
The impeachment, backed by 14 out of 20 councillors, followed allegations of gross misconduct, financial misappropriation, abuse of office, and high-handedness levelled against the trio.
In their place, Zimughan Martins was elected as the new leader, while Clement Wagha emerged as the deputy leader.
Pondy Stainless was chosen as the majority leader, Goodluck Ayangor as chief whip, and Paul Florence (Miss) as deputy chief whip.
The councillors described the move as a necessary step to restore accountability and transparency in the legislative arm, stressing that the impeachment reflected the collective will of the majority.

In his acceptance speech, the new Leader, Martins, thanked his colleagues for the confidence reposed in him.
He pledged to foster unity among councillors, work harmoniously with the executive under the council Chairman, Julius Takeme, and ensure the delivery of democratic dividends to the people of Burutu.
