As torrential rains continue to batter Yobe State, Governor Mai Mala Buni has issued a passionate appeal to the House of Representatives Committee on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), urging swift intervention on the state’s rapidly deteriorating federal roads. The governor made the plea in Damaturu during a courtesy visit by the FERMA committee, led by Chairman Aderemi Abasi Oseni.
Governor Buni warned that the worsening condition of federal roads across Yobe has become a serious threat to both security and economic activities. He noted that deep potholes and failed road sections are forcing motorists to slow down, exposing them to potential attacks from bandits and other criminal elements who exploit such vulnerable spots.
Highlighting the urgency of the situation, Buni listed several major routes that require immediate attention, including the Bara-Gulani, Buni-Bara, Kaliyari-Bayamari, and Geidam-Maine Sorowa roads. According to him, restoring these highways is critical not only for security but also for the free flow of goods and services that are vital to Yobe’s economy and the well-being of its residents.

The FERMA committee, currently on a tour to assess the condition of federal roads in the region, acknowledged the gravity of the issues raised by the governor. Committee Chairman Oseni assured that the concerns have been duly noted and pledged that urgent action will be taken to address the most critical sections. He also praised Governor Buni’s ongoing efforts in expanding and improving road infrastructure within Yobe, emphasizing that such initiatives are pivotal to fostering regional development and economic growth.
The call by Governor Buni adds to the growing demand across Nigeria for enhanced road maintenance and federal attention, especially as heavy rains continue to expose the fragility of transportation infrastructure. With Yobe State serving as a critical link between the North-East and the rest of the country, pressure is mounting on FERMA and the federal government to move quickly and prevent further deterioration that could isolate communities and hamper national security efforts.
