Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has launched the distribution of emergency food and nutrition assistance supplied by the Federal Government, aimed at supporting more than 40,000 vulnerable residents across the state during the Ramadan season.
The programme was officially launched in Damaturu, where the governor described the intervention as a crucial step toward easing the burden on households currently facing economic hardship.
The initiative, facilitated through the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, will provide nutritional food baskets and essential medical supplies to communities in need throughout the holy month.
Speaking at the event, Governor Buni expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as compassionate leadership and swift support for vulnerable Nigerians.
He also acknowledged the contributions of the Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Yusuf Tanko Sununu, for helping coordinate the intervention.

According to the governor, the programme complements ongoing humanitarian efforts by the Yobe State government aimed at reducing hardship and improving resilience among communities.
Beneficiaries of the initiative will receive food packages containing rice, beans, millet, vegetable oil, palm oil, seasoning, salt, and tomato paste.
In addition, medical consumables will be delivered to three health facilities in the state to strengthen healthcare services during the Ramadan period.
Officials said the distribution exercise is being carried out through a coordinated effort involving the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, the Yobe State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, and volunteers participating in the programme.
Authorities noted that the intervention forms part of wider federal and state government measures to tackle food insecurity and provide humanitarian relief to vulnerable households in Yobe State.
