Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has been conferred with national honour by the President of the Republic of Niger, Mohamed Bazoum.

The award, which was contained in a letter presented on behalf of the president to the governor by the Second Deputy Speaker Ecowas Parliament, Boucary Sani Malam Chaibou, was in recognition of the governor’s contribution to peace building between Nigeria and Niger Republic.

The letter which was personally signed by the president said the National Honour awarded to the governor has become necessary following his immense contributions to the existing peace between the two countries.

Part of the letter reads “it was a recognition of Governor Buni’s active contributions to strengthening the strong bilateral, economic and social relationship between Nigeria and Niger.”

Overwhelmed by the honour, Bumi expressed his profound gratitude and appreciation to President Bazoum, the government and people of Niger Republic for the great honour and recognition.

He assured the country of his continuous support and commitment to building stronger relationships between the two countries.

“Nigeria and Niger are brothers. We all have roles to play in strengthening peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding between the governments and people of the two countries”.

He said the award would serve as a springboard to do more to improve the bond between the two nations.

The Trumpet gathered that the award is coming barely few months after Nigeria’s National Honour of the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) was conferred on him by President Mohammadu Buhari.
