The Hausa translated version of the green guide for Hajj and Umrah has been launched by the Ummah for Earth in collaboration with the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciencs of the Bayero University, Kano.
The documented booklet consisting of 46 pages was produced to bridge the language barrier for stakeholders, especially from Nigeria and other Hausa speaking countries to ensure they conduct themselves in the most environmentally friendly manner during Hajj.
Launching the book in Kano, BUK’s Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research and Development, Prof. Amina Mustapha, noted that performing the Hajj is among the pillars of Islam, as such enhancing the knowledge of those who perform the exercise is key especially in the context where the guide was written in other languages.
She commended the effort of the university and the lead translator, Prof. Aliyu Barau for bridging the knowledge gap.

He said about 1,300 pilgrims died in 2024 due to extreme heat and humidity, an increase in air pollution and with about 300 million liters of treated sewage discharged daily into the Red Sea, among others concerns, hence, the need for more sensitization.
According to him, the green Hajj guide is originally an Arabic document designed to educate and guide pilgrims on conducting themselves in an environmentally friendly manner during Hajj and Umrah, which includes protecting the environment, promoting sanitation, and ensuring the well-being of pilgrims, among others.
He however, hinted that the Hausa version of the book will help in educating and informing Hausa-speaking pilgrims on how to conduct themselves in ways that support Saudi authorities and fulfill the objectives of Hajj, which includes fighting climate change.
