The Centre for Dryland Agriculture (CDA) of the Bayero University, Kano, is set to host the 5th international conference on drylands.
The conference will provide a platform for dialogue, learning, and collaboration on sustainable management of rangelands across Africa and the drylands of the world.
Briefing newsmen on the line up of activities on Monday, the centre’s Director, Prof. Jibrin Jibrin, said the conference will hold from May 6th to 8th, 2025, at the university’s CBN Centre of Excellence.
According to him, the theme for the conference: “Promoting sustainability and resilience of rangelands: Present and future outlooks,” will feature various speakers from the academia, government, civil society, development partners and pastoralist communities among others, who will explore innovative solutions for building resilient, productive, and sustainable rangeland systems in the face of climate change, land degradation, conflict, and socio-economic transformation.

“The 5th international conference on drylands responds to the urgent need to reimagine the governance, utilization, and restoration of rangelands.
“It will showcase scientific research, indigenous knowledge, institutional models, and policy frameworks that can support transformation in the drylands,” he said.
Prof. Jibrin further highlighted that the conference objectives include, sharing state-of-the-art scientific evidence and practical experiences on rangeland health, management, and productivity, promoting dialogue between researchers, policy makers, pastoralists, and civil society on integrated approaches to rangeland governance, and identifying strategies for building climate resilience, food and livelihood security, and peace in dryland communities among others.
