The Senator representing Rivers South East, Barinada Mpigi is dead.
The strong man of Rivers politics and one of the Federal Capital Territory,FCT,Minister, Nyesom Wike’s right hand man reportedly passed on in a London hospital.
The cause of death of the Ogoni born senator had not yet been ascertained at press time.
Until his death, the senator was chairman of Senate committee on Works.
Mpigi who hails from Koroma in Tai Local Government Area, Rivers State was one time Commissioner for youths in Rivers, chairman Tai Local Government Council and member House of Representatives.
He ascended to the upper chamber of the National Assembly in 2019 and at some point, rumours had it that he was being tipped to replace Governor Siminalayi Fubara in the heat of the standoff between the governor and his benefactor, Wike.

His death will be greeted with mixed feeling in Koroma, his home town including the entire Tai Local Government Area where he had stood like a colossus.
He became the political leader in the local government and determines who gets what since the FCT Minister apparently gained upper hand in Rivers politics in recent years.
There is no official reaction yet from the Rivers State government nor from the State chapter of the All Progressive Congress, APC on the passing of the senator.
