Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has formally withdrawn his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in a move that has sent shockwaves through the state’s political landscape and triggered intense speculation about his next political destination.
In a letter dated December 29, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Ampang West Ward in Mangu Local Government Area, the governor announced his resignation from the party with immediate effect, citing the need for focused leadership, clear direction and improved service delivery for the people of Plateau State.
The resignation letter, which was acknowledged by the ward leadership on December 30, expressed Mutfwang’s gratitude to the PDP for providing him the platform to participate in Nigeria’s democratic process and to serve in various capacities over the years.
He also appreciated party leaders, supporters and loyalists across the state for their support and sacrifices, stressing that the decision to leave the party was taken after careful consideration of prevailing political realities.

According to sources familiar with the development, the governor’s exit reflects growing internal challenges within the PDP in Plateau State, as well as broader national realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development has immediately ignited political tension across the state, with analysts predicting a possible reshaping of alliances. While no official announcement has been made regarding his next move, strong indications suggest that Mutfwang may be considering a switch to the All Progressives Congress, APC, a move that could significantly alter the balance of power in Plateau politics.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the governor nor his aides have confirmed his next political platform, but the resignation is already being described by observers as one of the most consequential political shifts in the state in recent years.
