Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru has resigned from his position effective immediately.
His resignation was detailed in a letter addressed to President Bola Tinubu, dated December 1.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the news on Monday.
Onanuga stated that Badaru resigned due to health reasons.

Tinubu accepted Badaru’s resignation and expressed gratitude for his contributions to the country.
Sources within the Presidency indicate that Tinubu is expected to announce Badaru’s successor to the Senate within the week.
At 63 years old, Badaru served as the governor of Jigawa State for two terms from 2015 to 2023. He was appointed as defence minister by Tinubu on August 21, 2023.
His resignation occurs in the context of Tinubu’s declaration of a national security emergency, with plans to provide further details soon.
