The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has cleared Governor Douye Diri’s nominee, Peter Akpe, as the new deputy governor of the state following Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo’s demise.
Ewhrudjakpor died on December 11, 2025, and was buried on January 30, 2026, in his hometown of Ofoni in Sagbama Local Government Area.
The new deputy governor was, until this latest development, the chief of staff to the governor.
He is also from the Bayelsa West Senatorial District, like the late former deputy governor.
