Brazilian football legend and former Real Madrid star Roberto Carlos is recovering in hospital after undergoing what he has described as a planned preventive medical procedure, putting to rest widespread rumours of a heart attack.
The 52-year-old former left-back confirmed his condition in a message shared on his official Instagram page, where he posted a photo of himself smiling from a hospital bed, reassuring fans and the football community around the world that he is in good health.
Addressing the speculation surrounding his condition, Roberto Carlos said the procedure was scheduled in advance and carried out by his medical team without complications.
“I want to clarify some recent information that has been circulating,” he wrote. “I recently had a planned preventive medical procedure with my medical team. The procedure went well, and I am doing fine. I did not have a heart attack.”
The Brazilian great added that his recovery was progressing smoothly and that he expects to return fully to his professional and personal engagements in due course.

Roberto Carlos is widely regarded as one of the greatest left-backs in football history. During his illustrious spell at Real Madrid, he made 527 appearances, winning four La Liga titles and three UEFA Champions League trophies. He was also a key member of the Brazilian national team that won the 2002 FIFA World Cup in South Korea and Japan.
