At least 10 people narrowly escaped death yesterday in Asaba when a tipper truck, when it’s brake reportedly failed, veered off its lane and skidded into oncoming traffic on the busy Nnebisi Road.
The accident, which occurred in the morning, sent shockwaves through road users and residents of the Delta State capital.
According to eyewitnesses, the tipper lost control and swerved into the path of a keke, a local tricycle used for transportation, and several other vehicles near the Stephen Keshi Stadium.
The keke, driver and his three passengers, barely avoided being crushed by the truck.
The keke driver, although managing to swerve just in time to prevent a head-on collision, was severely injured. Fortunately, his three passengers escaped unscathed. “It was a terrifying moment,” said one eyewitness. “The keke driver swerved just in time, and it’s a miracle that no lives were lost.”
