In a decisive show of support for victims of insurgency, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has pledged that the state government will settle all medical bills for 110 victims injured in the recent multiple bomb explosions across four locations in Maiduguri metropolis.

The governor made the announcement during an emotional visit to survivors receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and the State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri.

Describing the coordinated attacks as “a sad disaster,” Gov. Zulum assured residents that such an ঘটনা would not be repeated, emphasizing that the darkest days of insurgency in the state are over.

Gov. Zulum, who was in Saudi Arabia performing the lesser hajj when the attacks occurred, reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to prevent any resurgence of terrorist control.

“By God’s grace, the state will not fall into the hands of Boko Haram again,” he declared.

“We sympathize deeply with families who lost their loved ones and assure them of government support.”

Beyond covering medical expenses, the governor stressed that safeguarding lives and property remains the administration’s top priority, adding prayers for the repose of those who died in the attacks.

Gov. Zulum also commended Kashim Shettima, who represented Bola Tinubu during a visit to the injured, describing the gesture as a strong commitment to leadership and national solidarity.

He further praised the efforts of the service chiefs and security forces, urging residents to remain calm and cooperative as both federal and state authorities intensify efforts to restore lasting peace.

At the trauma centre of UMTH, Director Dr. Bukar Bunu disclosed that 110 patients were admitted following the blasts.

According to him, 22 victims were brought in dead, while six others later succumbed to injuries. Of the remaining patients, 32 have been successfully treated and discharged, while 50 are still receiving care.

The governor was accompanied by top government officials, lawmakers, and party leaders during the hospital visits, underscoring a unified front in responding to the tragedy.

The latest pledge marks a significant intervention aimed at easing the burden on victims and reinforcing public confidence amid ongoing security challenges in Borno State.
