The founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, has ended a three-year silence on national politics with a direct criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, questioning its handling of the economy and security.
Speaking during a sermon at Faith Tabernacle in Ota on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, Oyedepo departed from his recent restraint on partisan matters and addressed what he described as the country’s worsening conditions. His remarks have since stirred widespread debate across political and religious circles.
In a pointed address to his congregation, the cleric openly challenged the performance of the federal government. He told worshippers that leaders must be told the truth about their record in office and should not expect praise where there is public dissatisfaction. When he asked whether the current administration was doing well, members of the congregation responded in the negative.

Oyedepo argued that any government that fails to safeguard lives and stabilise the economy cannot demand uncritical support from citizens. He stressed that Nigeria’s pressing challenges require measurable action and responsible governance rather than rhetoric.
The bishop also drew attention to the strain on households across the country, citing rising economic hardship and persistent insecurity. He warned against attempts to shape public opinion ahead of the 2027 general elections while many Nigerians continue to struggle with living costs and safety concerns.
Oyedepo’s comments mark a notable return to national political commentary and are likely to resonate in the months ahead as conversations intensify around governance, accountability and electoral politics in Nigeria.
