A bill to establish the Kano State Security Corps Bill, 2025, has scaled second reading in the Kano State House of Assembly.
The bill co-sponsored by the member representing Nassarawa and Kiru Constituencies, respectively, Yusuf Aliyu and Usman Tasiu, seeks to enhance the security of lives and properties in the state.
Majority Leader of the House, Lawan Husseini, took the second reading during Tuesday’s plenary presided over by the Speaker, Ismail Falgore.
Shortly after plenary, Husseini explained to journalists that the state security outfit when established will provide security for citizens and assist the police in maintaining law and order in the state.
“As you are all aware, there is widespread of insecurity in the state, ranging from phone snatching to thuggery activities and rampant sale of illicit drugs in the state. When established, it will really help in reducing the menace of all this types of crimes,” the legislator said.
He also highlighted that the corps will have powers to carry weapons, make arrest and hand over suspects to the police for prosecution, and will be headed by a commander- general as well as a governing council comprising of people that are non-partisan and with proven integrity.
Similarly, the House passed for second reading, the Kano State Signage and Advertisement (Establishment) Bill, 2025.

When established, the agency will ensure that all outdoor adverts on billboards adhere with the provision of Sharia laws, limit the indiscriminate pasting of posters on walls and also improve the state’s revenue generation.
Other bills that passed second reading in the House are the Kano State Printing Corporation Bill, 2025, and the Kano State Electricity Bill, 2025.
After extensive deliberation on all the bills, the speaker ruled that the Kano State Security Corps Bill, 2025 and the Kano State Printing Corporation Bill, 2025 will be considered at the committee of the whole by the House at its next sitting, while the Kano State Signage and Advertisement (Establishment) Bill, 2025, has been referred to the House Committee on Land to report back to the House within three weeks.
The House thereafter, adjourned sitting to February 3, 2025.
