The President of the United States, Joe Biden, announced a $2.5 billion security assistance package for Ukraine.
Biden made the announcement in a White House statement posted on Monday in Washington
He said: “Today, I am proud to announce nearly $2.5 billion in security assistance for Ukraine, as the Ukrainian people continue to defend their independence and freedom from Russian aggression.”
The move is part of Washington’s plans to deliver aid to Kyiv before President-elect Donald Trump takes office on January 20, 2025.

Trump’s victory in the November 5 election casts uncertainty on the future of American backing for Ukraine.
The package also included a short window in which billions of dollars in previously authorised assistance may be disbursed before the president-elect takes office.
A military drawdown package worth $1.25 billion is part of the aid, enabling the Pentagon to swiftly deploy weapons from American reserves.
An additional $1.22 billion will be provided through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which purchases military hardware from allies or the defence sector.
