Bernardo Silva will depart Manchester City at the end of the 2025–26 season, bringing an end to a highly successful nine-year spell at the club.

Assistant manager Pep Lijnders confirmed the development following City’s emphatic 4-0 FA Cup quarterfinal victory over Liverpool, describing Silva’s exit as the close of a remarkable chapter.

The 31-year-old Portugal international will leave as a free agent when his contract expires this summer. During his time at the Etihad,

Silva established himself as one of the team’s most influential players, earning widespread praise from manager Pep Guardiola, who previously labeled him “irreplaceable.”

Since joined from AS Monaco in 2017 for a reported €53 million, and has made over 450 appearances for City.

Known for his versatility, technical ability, and relentless work rate, he played a central role in the club’s domestic and European dominance, winning six Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League.

Despite trailing league leaders Arsenal by nine points, City remain in contention for silverware this season, having already secured the League Cup and continuing their push in multiple competitions.

Silva’s departure adds to a growing list of high-profile exits from top English clubs this season.

Mohamed Salah has also confirmed he will leave Liverpool at the end of the campaign, closing another historic chapter in the Premier League.

Salah, who joined from AS Roma in 2017, leaves as one of Liverpool’s greatest-ever players, with 255 goals in 435 appearances and multiple major honours, including the Champions League and league titles.

As the season enters its final stretch, attention will now turn to how both players will be honored and where their next chapters may unfold.
