Amid renewed violence and escalating insecurity in Benue State, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has cancelled his scheduled visit to Kaduna and will instead travel to Benue on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, in a decisive move to address the deepening crisis.
In a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the visit shows the President’s commitment to restoring peace and stability in the state, which has suffered repeated attacks that have claimed hundreds of lives and displaced entire communities.
The President’s visit is aimed at gaining firsthand insight into the root causes of the violence. During his stay, Tinubu will hold a crucial town hall meeting with traditional rulers, religious leaders, political figures, youth groups, and community stakeholders in a bid to find lasting solutions to the hostilities that have plagued Benue for years.

Already, Tinubu has dispatched a high-powered delegation to Benue comprising the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), the Inspector General of Police, top intelligence chiefs, the National Security Adviser, and the Chairmen of the Senate and House Committees on Defence. The team has been engaging with local actors ahead of the President’s visit.
President Tinubu has repeatedly condemned the bloodshed in Benue and emphasized the need for unity, love, and mutual understanding among the people. He extended his deepest condolences to the families of victims and assured citizens that his administration is committed to ending the cycle of violence in the region.
Originally, the President was scheduled to visit Kaduna State on June 18 to commission several state projects. However, that trip has now been moved to Thursday, June 19, to prioritize the urgent security situation in Benue.
