Bayern Munich will need to dig deep as they face Dinamo Zagreb in their Champions League opener on Tuesday, with coach Vincent Kompany confirming that key defender Sacha Boey will be sidelined due to injury. The French right-back underwent meniscus surgery on his left knee after picking up an injury in training, and he is expected to miss several weeks of action.

Kompany, in his first Champions League match as Bayern’s head coach, expressed confidence in the squad’s ability to adapt. “We have our ideas on how to replace Sacha, and we’ve found solutions,” Kompany said at a pre-match press conference. “It’s unfortunate for Sacha, especially since he’s been in great form, but we’re hoping for a swift recovery. We’ll finalize our approach tonight and tomorrow.”

Bayern Munich, who have started the Bundesliga season in dominant fashion with three wins from three matches, are aiming to go all the way in this year’s Champions League, with the final set to be held at their home stadium, the Allianz Arena, in May 2025.

For Kompany, a former Belgium international, the match represents his debut as a coach in Europe’s top football competition. “The dream is alive for us to play in the final here in Munich,” Kompany said. “Our fans can dream, but it’s crucial that we focus on delivering results on the pitch, starting tomorrow.”

He emphasized the importance of staying focused against a strong Dinamo Zagreb side. “We know tomorrow’s game will be tough. It’s essential that we perform at our best from the first to the last minute,” Kompany added.
