Bayelsa Queens FC, also known as the Prosperity Girls, opened their campaign at the 5th CAF Women’s Champions League qualifying tournament with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Police Ladies FC of Ghana on Sunday at the Stade Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro.
The Ghanaians took the game to the ladies from Bayelsa State in the first 10 minutes of the encounter, but it was the Prosperity Girls that scored first in the 12th minute through Shakirat Moshood, after finding their rhythm to end the first half one-nil.
In the second half, Bayelsa Queens pressured Police Ladies of Ghana, and it was Emem Essien, in the 62nd minute, who made it 2-0 for the Prosperity Girls.

Six minutes later, Police Ladies of Ghana pulled one back to reduce the deficit through Mary Berko, but Bayelsa Queens held on to win the game.
Shakirat Moshood of Bayelsa Queens won the player of the match award.
Coach Whyte Ogbonda said the victory has boosted the confidence of the team going into their next game.
In the other Group B game, Sam Nelly FC of the Benin Republic defeated ASKO FC of Togo 1-0.
Next for Bayelsa Queens is a match-up against ASKO of Togo on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, and victory for the Prosperity Girls will see them in the semi-finals.
