The Bayelsa State Police Command has assured residents of a safe and crime-free Christmas and New Year celebration as it intensified the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices across the state.

The assurance was given by the Commissioner of Police, Alonyenu Francis Idu, following a series of sensitisation activities carried out ahead of the yuletide season. The campaign, popularly known as POCACOV, is aimed at discouraging cultism, crime, and other social vices while strengthening community policing and public cooperation.

Under the initiative, officers of the command have been deployed to schools, churches, mosques, markets, and motor parks across Bayelsa to engage residents on the dangers of criminal activities and the need for moral discipline, civic responsibility, and vigilance. The outreach also focuses on promoting peaceful coexistence and encouraging citizens to work closely with security agencies to keep their communities safe.

Speaking on the exercise, CP Alonyenu praised Bayelsans for their cooperation and law-abiding conduct, noting that the command has recorded encouraging support from residents and community leaders. The police boss also called on parents and guardians to take responsibility for the conduct of their children and wards, warning against involvement in cultism and other criminal acts that could disrupt public peace. He urged members of the public to promptly report suspicious movements, persons, or activities to the nearest police station or the command’s control room.

According to the command, timely information from residents remains critical to crime prevention, especially during periods of increased social activities such as the Christmas and New Year celebrations. The police encouraged citizens to make use of the emergency contact numbers 07034578208 and 09167322691 whenever the need arises.

With increased patrols, intelligence-led operations, and sustained community engagement, the Bayelsa State Police Command expressed confidence that residents will enjoy a secure and peaceful festive season, urging everyone to remain alert and speak up in the interest of public safety.
