All eight Local Government Chairmen under the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Bayelsa Chapter, have announced their resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The move follows the recent exit of Governor Douye Diri from the party.
At a press conference held at the ALGON Secretariat in Yenagoa, the council bosses declared full support for Governor Diri’s decision, affirming that they will continue to stand by him in whatever political direction he takes.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Hon. Lelei Tariye Isaac, Chairman of Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, said the decision was made after careful reflection on the deepening crisis within the PDP. He expressed gratitude to the people of Bayelsa for their continuous support of the Prosperity Administration led by Governor Diri.
“We are indeed grateful for the opportunity to serve Bayelsans for the past one and a half years under the platform of the PDP. Today, as our leader, Governor Douye Diri, has officially resigned from the party, we, the Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, Councillors, and appointees across all Local Government Areas, have decided to follow his leadership and resign our membership of the PDP,” Isaac said.
