Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has expressed deep satisfaction with the pace and quality of infrastructure projects being executed by his administration, stating that the progress aligns with his vision to transform the state’s landscape and connect previously inaccessible communities.
During a comprehensive inspection tour on Thursday, Governor Diri visited several high-impact projects including the 25,000-capacity Olympic-standard stadium at Igbogene, the Yenagoa-Oporoma-Ukubie road and bridge at Angiama, and the vital spur to Otuan community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area. His itinerary also covered phase one of the Akaba-Okodi road in Ogbia Local Government Area, phase three of the Glory Drive in Yenagoa, the Epie Creek Bridge at Imgbi Junction, and the Polaku-Sabagreia road connecting Kolokuma/Opokuma to Yenagoa.
Speaking to reporters, Governor Diri expressed confidence that the contractors would meet the agreed timelines for delivery. He emphasized that the projects are not just progressing well but are poised to meet the developmental aspirations of the people of Bayelsa. According to him, the level of work being delivered demonstrates a renewed commitment to excellence, transparency, and infrastructural growth.
“We visited several key projects today and I am truly impressed,” Diri stated. “From the bridge at Angiama to the Glory Drive and the stadium, the progress is tangible and encouraging. The contractors have committed to their timelines and I believe they will meet them. These projects are on track, and we are determined to deliver lasting infrastructure to the good people of Bayelsa.”
One of the highlights of the governor’s tour was his drive with his convoy to Otuan community—a journey he recalled was previously only possible by boat. This, he noted, underscores the impact of his administration’s commitment to opening up the hinterlands and ensuring that even the most remote communities are accessible by road. He described the road to Otuan as a game-changing development that will bring historic transformation to the area once completed.

Governor Diri also revealed that the state government has remained consistent in meeting its financial obligations, adding that all contractors are being paid promptly and none are being owed. This, he said, has contributed significantly to the steady pace of construction and the quality of delivery.
In support of the governor’s remarks, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Moses Teibowei, noted that frequent oversight by the ministry has ensured that the projects meet government standards and milestones. He affirmed that continued monitoring will remain a priority to ensure quality control.
At the stadium site in Igbogene, the Business Manager of MCC Group, Mr. Dagogo Emmanuel, confirmed that piling work is nearing completion, and actual construction of the main stadium structure will commence shortly. He added that all necessary materials are already on site and the company is working diligently to achieve a major milestone before the peak of the rainy season.
