Bayelsa chief judge commends security agencies for rescuing kidnapped judge

The Chief Judge of Bayelsa State, Justice Matilda Abrakasa Ayemieye on Friday commended the collaborative efforts of security agencies in securing therelease of kidnapped Justice Omukoro of the state high court

Justice Abrakasa noted that Justice Umukoro, who was abducted on June 21 had been held captive under distressing circumstances.

The kidnapped judge was rescued on Thursday through the combined efforts of the police and the Department of State Services (DSS)..

In a statement issued by Julius Nyananyo, Head of Media and Information of the Bayelsa State judiciary, the chief judge attributed the successful outcome to the tireless efforts of the state government, security agencies, the bar, organisations, community leaders, and the judiciary family.

The chief judge extended her gratitude to everyone involved in securing Justice Omukoro’s safe return.

Justice Abrakasa observed that the rescue operation underscores the need for collaboration, patience, and professionalism in resolving such delicate situations.

She further said: “As we celebrate this positive outcome, we remain committed to addressing the root causes of such incidents and further ensuring the safety of all judicial officers in the State.

“We are happy to state that Justice Umukoro is now receiving medical and psychological support and requests privacy during this period of recovery.

“The Bayelsa State Judiciary expresses profound appreciation for the outpouring of support and urges the public to remain vigilant, continuing to support the government’s and security agencies’ efforts to promote peace and security in the state,” Abrakasa stated.
