The Bayelsa government is applauding reforms in its internally generating revenue mechanism which has significantly impacted the state’s revenue base.
The commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Mrs Ebiuwonu Koku-Obiyai on Thursday said the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) has hit N 5 billion from N 1.2 billion and reiterated commitment to transparency.
The commissioner said that the IGR rose from N1.2 billion in January to N 5 billion in March 2025.
Speaking during a breakdown of the state’s revenue profile for January and February 2025, the commissioner attributed the rise in internal revenue to reforms at the Bayelsa Board of Internal Revenue and recently introduced electronic ticketing for collecting revenue.
She urged the people of Bayelsa to support the electronic revenue collection methods and assured that the state government will judiciously deploy the accruing revenue.

Giving highlights of the months of January and February , Mr Timipre Seipolu, Technical Adviser to Bayelsa Governor on Treasury and Accounts said the revenue from FAAC for January 2025 was N36.86 billion.
He said that after recurrent and capital payments the state has N 178.94 billion in the treasury.
For February, Seipolu noted that N 40.4 billion accrued to Bayelsa from the federation account.
He noted that the state was deliberately allocating more resources to capital projects as the ratio of recurrent to capital expenditure in February was N4 bn against N78 billion.
Seipolu also attributed the steady rise in the state’s IGR to increase in revenue based and enhanced taxation from implementation of the N 80,000 minimum wage approved for workers in the state.Bayelsa IGR hits N5 billion in March 2025
