Bauchi State Deputy Governor, Auwal Mohammed Jatau, has refuted viral allegations claiming he slapped the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, during a recent high-profile event at the Emir of Bauchi’s palace.
The rumour, which gained traction on social media, as observed by The Trumpet, has sparked intense discussion in political circles, raising questions about possible tensions among top government officials.
In response, Jatau’s media aide, Muslim Lawal, issued a firm denial on behalf of the Deputy Governor, describing the allegations as “baseless and irresponsible.”
“No, no—how can a deputy governor slap a minister?” Lawal stated. “My principal is a responsible leader. Such an act is unthinkable in Bauchi. If there’s proof, let them speak. We stand firm: this never happened.”
The alleged incident was said to have taken place during last Thursday’s dual ceremonies at the Emir’s palace, which featured the turbaning of former Governor Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar as Makama Babba 1 of Bauchi Emirate and the wedding Fatiha of his daughter, Khadija Muhammad.
Though some witnesses noted a tense atmosphere among VIP guests, no evidence has surfaced to substantiate claims of a physical altercation at the time of filing this report.
Further fueling speculation, the minister at the center of the controversy has so far declined to comment, with multiple efforts to reach his office proving unsuccessful.

His silence has only deepened public curiosity and raised concerns about the possible political implications of the situation.
Political analysts who spoke with The Trumpet, suggest the lack of a response from Tuggar may be a calculated move, considering the sensitive dynamics within Nigeria’s political and diplomatic spheres particularly within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Bauchi, at the moment, remains a hotspot for political intrigue as the 2027 general elections approach, with rival factions vying for influence.
While there is no public record of animosity between Jatau and Tuggar, insiders believe the rumour may be linked to broader power struggles or deliberate attempts at political sabotage.
