Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal will not be included in the squad for their Champions League match against Newcastle United on Thursday.
The 18-year-old was sidelined during his team’s victory over Valencia on Sunday due to a groin injury, which came after Barcelona manager Hansi Flick expressed concerns about the amount of playing time Yamal received while representing Spain during the international break.
Yamal played 79 minutes in Spain’s 3-0 win over Bulgaria on September 4 and 73 minutes in a 6-0 triumph against Turkey three days later.

Barcelona secured a 6-0 win against Valencia without him and have opted not to include the forward in their lineup for their first Champions League match of the season at St James’ Park.
Additionally, Spain left-back Alejandro Balde (hamstring) and midfielder Gavi (knee) will also be missing.
Netherlands midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who missed the Valencia game due to international commitments, is available for the match against Newcastle.
Last season, Barcelona won La Liga and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League, where they were defeated by Inter Milan.
