Managing Director of Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Chief Festus Ochonogor, has charged students of tertiary institutions to avoid adopting shortcuts to achieve academic success.
Speaking at an awareness campaign held at the Delta State University, Abraka, with theme: “Don’t go there, there is danger,” Ochonogor emphasized the critical role education plays in shaping a successful future and warned students about the perils of engaging in social vices such as drug abuse, cultism, and other destructive behaviours.
Ochonogor highlighted that higher education offers a unique opportunity for personal growth and career development, urging students to make the most of the opportunity by staying disciplined.
“Those of you who are here are privileged. Be focused and avoid ‘going there, as such choices can ruin your future”, the DESOPADEC boss said.
He praised the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori for supporting the awareness campaign and reaffirmed DESOPADEC’s commitment to partnering with programs that positively influence the youth.

Vice Chancellor of the Delta State University, Prof. Andy Egwunyenga, underscored the significance in reinforcing positive values among students.
He noted the timeliness of the campaign, as it coincided with the start of a new academic session, urging students to resist pressures to engage in harmful behaviors and to uphold the values they brought from their families.
The campaign which was organized by Comrade Ezekiel Oghenetega, Executive Assistant to the Gov. Oborevwori on Students’ Affairs, aims to raise awareness about the dangers of social vices prevalent on campuses.
Oghenetega said: “Drug abuse, cultism, and similar vices have devastating impacts on individuals and communities. We must educate our students about the long-term consequences.”
