An accident on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway on Wednesday claimed the lives of three persons, while six other victims sustained injuries following a multi-vehicle collision involving five vehicles.
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) reported the accident, which occurred around 7:45 am today.
The South-West Area Commander of TRACE, Mr. Adekunle Ajibade, provided details surrounding the tragic event.
He said that a cement truck, which was traveling at high speed and lacked registration plates, was en route to the toll gate from Sango-Ota when it experienced a brake failure.
Ajibade said this mechanical malfunction caused the truck to collide violently with the four other vehicles on the highway.
“The impact of the crash was severe, resulting in the deaths of three people on the scene.
“The injuries sustained by the six survivors varied in severity, prompting immediate medical attention,” he stated.
Ajibade confirmed that the deceased have been transported to Ifo General Hospital in Ogun State, where the injured victims are also receiving treatment.

Following the accident, the damaged vehicles have been safely towed off the expressway to restore normal traffic flow in the area and prevent further disruptions.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, aiming to enhance road safety and prevent similar occurrences in the future.
