Arsenal head coach, Mikel Arteta responds to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang saying he was the solution rather than a problem.

The Spaniard noted that he has done a lot of things and taken several decisions for the best interest of the club.

According to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who joined Barcelona on a free transfer despite having a contract with Arsenal until 2023, Arteta was the problem he had in the Arsenal.

Arteta on Wednesday refuted the allegations made by the ex-Arsenal striker stating that what he has done was in the best interest of everyone.

The 32-year-old player had disciplinary issues in December which made Arteta strip him of the captaincy of Arsenal. This action degenerated into a frosty relationship between the duo and Aubameyang had to leave the club in January to Spain.

Aubameyang who joined Arsenal in a £56m deal from Borussia Dortmund, scored a total of 68 goals and 16 assists in his 128 Premier League appearances for the North London club.

According to Arteta, “I’ve been the solution, 100%. I can look in the eye of anybody.

“I do a lot of things wrong, for sure – the intention all the time is the best and not for me, it’s for the club and the team.

“I’m extremely grateful for what Auba has done at the club and his contribution since I have been here. The way I see myself in that relationship is the solution, not the problem.

“It ended up the best possible way for everyone, I think – when things change, and the context changes, this is part of football,” said Arteta.

“What we did yesterday or a month ago is not relevant. You have to decide that the best thing to do is let him move on and now he plays for Barcelona.

“We have had different kinds of meetings but it was a decision taken collectively with the club, the player, and his agent,” he added.

However, the 30 years old French striker, Alexandre Lacazette, whose contract is due to expire will be the captain of Arsenal till the end of the season.
