Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has condemned the wave of terrorist attacks across Nigeria, warning that the violence poses a serious threat to national unity, peace, and stability.
In a statement shared via his official X account on Saturday, the former presidential candidate denounced what he described as “continued acts of terrorism and brigandage,” stressing that attacks on innocent citizens must not be allowed to define the nation’s identity.
Atiku expressed deep sympathy for victims and their families, while calling on authorities to intensify efforts toward safeguarding lives and property.
He emphasized that the primary responsibility of any government is to ensure the security of its citizens, urging renewed urgency, coordination, and commitment in tackling insecurity.
He also acknowledged the contributions of the United States in combating terrorism globally, commending U.S. President, Donald Trump, for efforts aimed at addressing the menace.
According to him, international collaboration remains vital in confronting threats to global peace and security.
Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu had earlier expressed profound grief over the killing of Nigerian soldiers during a recent terrorist attack on a military base in Benisheikh, Borno State.
He described the fallen troops as heroes whose sacrifices would never be forgotten.

The attack, which occurred on April 9, 2026, targeted troops of the 29 Task Force Brigade under ‘Operation HADIN KAI’.
Among those reportedly killed was Brigadier-General O.O. Braimoh, alongside several officers, following what sources described as a sustained and coordinated assault by suspected insurgents linked to ISWAP.
Tinubu commended the bravery of the troops, noting that their resistance helped avert a more devastating outcome, while reiterating the government’s commitment to combating insurgency and securing the nation.
