Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed his demand for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday, Atiku referred to Kanu’s prolonged detention as “a deep wound on our nation’s conscience” and urged the Federal Government to either release him or ensure he receives a fair trial.
“The ongoing detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is a deep wound on our nation’s conscience and undermines our faith in the rule of law. Ignoring court orders that granted him bail is an abuse of power and a violation of justice.

“Therefore, I fully support the campaign led by @YeleSowore for his immediate release or proper prosecution,” Atiku stated.
He emphasized that Nigeria should not allow this case to drag on indefinitely, asserting that “we fail as patriots if we let Kanu’s situation remain an unresolved issue that our nation refuses to address.”
He specifically called on leaders such as Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, and Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe to “take action and participate personally.”
