The Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Transport has called for stronger customer relations between drivers of the state owned transport company, Ebonyi State Transport Corporation, (EBOTRANS), and passengers as a strategy to boost the corporation’s productivity and revenue.
The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Joseph Ununu, who represents Abakaliki South State Constituency, made the call during the committee’s oversight and familiarisation visit to EBOTRANS in Abakaliki.
The visit, according to him, was aimed at reviewing the corporation’s activities, assessing its achievements, and identifying areas where the Assembly could provide legislative or administrative support to enhance operations in the transport sector.
Hon. Ununu stressed that EBOTRANS plays a critical role in revenue generation and in providing affordable, reliable transport services to Ebonyians, explaining that the committee’s interaction with the management would help in identifying needs, exploring partnerships, and evaluating the successes recorded in repositioning the corporation for greater efficiency.
The lawmaker commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for procuring 20 additional buses for the corporation, describing the move as a bold step towards addressing transportation challenges in the state.
He also lauded the leadership of the General Manager,Mrs. Nnenna Igwe, for her administrative innovations, urging her to continue prioritising safety through the provision of fire-fighting equipment and standard toilet facilities across EBOTRANS parks.

On their parts, Hon. Victor Nwoke and Hon. Obinna Mbam, member representing Izzi East constituency urged the corporation to maintain close engagement with the committee to foster collaboration and accelerate the growth of the state’s transport system while commending the cleanliness of EBOTRANS facilities, encouraging other operators in Ebonyi to emulate the standard.
Responding, the General Manager of EBOTRANS, Mrs. Nnenna Igwe, highlighted the corporation’s milestones under her watch, and revealed that a three-week intensive training programme had been conducted for drivers to improve efficiency and service delivery.
She further noted that the corporation had maintained prompt payment of workers’ salaries, gratuities for retirees, and regular safety enlightenment programmes for both drivers and passengers.
Mrs. Igwe appealed for continued partnership with the committee, while calling for more buses and the establishment of government-owned parks along operational routes to strengthen EBOTRANS’s effectiveness.
However, the corporation’s Operational Manager, Mr. Innocent Obiahu-Egwu, appreciated the committee for its timely visit and assured that the management would remain committed to delivering quality services to Ebonyians.
