The people of Asaba in Delta State have raised N1 billion for the construction of a permanent palace for the Asagba of Asaba.
The amount which was realised during a fundraising ceremony was part of activities marking the coronation of the 14th Asagba of Asaba, Obi Epiphany Azinge (SAN), which began on January 1, 2025.
The proposed palace, located on a 28, 860-square-meter site along the DLA Road in Asaba, will feature a range of facilities, including a palace, administrative block, museum, library, pavilion and a multi-purpose hall.
The ambitious project is expected to cost N3 billion, with N2 billion allocated for the palace itself and N1 billion for ancillary facilities.

Speaking on the project, Dr. Victor Amuwah, a member of the organizing committee and research assistant to the Asagba, stressed the importance of providing a befitting residence for the traditional ruler.
He called on the sons and daughters of Asaba, along with friends and supporters of Obi Azinge and the Asaba community, to contribute generously to the execution of the project.
Also speaking, Architect Patrick Elikwu, an indigene of Asaba, while unveiling the prototype design of the ultra-modern palace during the event, announced that the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
