The army has handed over a 36-year-old man, identified as Animashaun Khalid, to the Lagos State Police Command after he was arrested for impersonating a military officer.
Khalid was apprehended by soldiers of the 9 Brigade, Ikeja, at the Arena Market, Oshodi, where he was found with a forged Nigerian Army identity card carrying his name and bearing the rank of a major.
The suspect was immediately transferred to the police in what authorities described as a seamless inter-agency operation.
Confirming the development in a statement on Monday, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the case had been assigned to the Special Squad I for a thorough investigation.

“The investigation will trace the source of the forged ID card, identify possible accomplices, and determine whether the suspect had used the fake military identity to commit other offences. At the conclusion of the investigation, the case will be charged in court,” Hundeyin explained.
The Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, commended the Nigerian Army for the swift arrest and prompt handover of the suspect.
He emphasized the importance of synergy among security agencies in combating crime across Lagos State.
Jimoh also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies, assuring that collaboration between the police, military, and other security forces would continue to enhance public safety.
