The headquarters of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, has dismissed social media reports alleging the unlawful arrest of Mr. Yebsi Gambkro, a student of the Taraba State University, on October 10, 2025.
In an official statement signed by the acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, the brigade clarified that Mr. Gambkro was not among the students initially detained for wearing military camouflage illegally during a campus social event.
It said those initially questioned were released immediately after the interaction.
Further investigations, as made known by the army, revealed that Mr. Gambkro was later seen wearing military camouflage, leading to a confrontation with Manga Emmanuel Manga, a 200-level computer science student and former military cadet.
The army added that the encounter reportedly escalated when Mr. Gambkro allegedly called friends and assaulted Mr. Manga, during which Manga’s mobile phone went missing.
“Following the incident, colleagues of Mr. Manga escorted Mr. Gambkro to the brigade for questioning.
“He was released the next morning and handed over to the university security officer for further investigation and recovery of the missing phone,” the army stated.

The army urged the public to always verify information before sharing and emphasized that the brigade does not tolerate indiscipline or abuse of authority.
