The Commander of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 ‘Operation Whirl Stroke’ (OPWS), Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, has reiterated the brigade’s commitment to delivering impartial security and supporting peace and development initiatives across Taraba State.
General Uwa gave the assurance over the weekend while receiving a high-powered delegation from the Wurkum Chiefdom at the brigade headquarters in Jalingo.
The group visited to commend the army for its decisive role in restoring normalcy in Karim Lamido Local Government Area.
Calling on residents to remain law-abiding and open to dialogue in resolving disputes, the brigade commander emphasized the importance of cooperation in sustaining peace.
He attributed recent security successes in Karim Lamido Local Government and other parts of the state to strengthened collaboration among security agencies, the Taraba State government, traditional institutions, and local communities.
The delegation, led by Mr. Iliya Idris on behalf of the chief of Wurkum, expressed gratitude to the brigade for its professionalism and swift intervention in the conflict between the Shomo and Wurkum tribes.
Idris described the army’s deployment as timely and crucial in preventing the tensions particularly in Usmanu Village from escalating into widespread violence.

He noted that the impartial presence of troops, continuous surveillance, and enforcement of law and order were key to restoring stability and rebuilding public trust in government institutions.
Idris added that the improved security situation has enabled displaced residents to return to their homes and resume their livelihoods.
Assuring continued support for peace efforts, Idris stated that the Wurkum people remain committed to unity, stability, and lawful conduct.
The delegation also offered condolences to the Nigerian Army over the passing of Brigadier General M. Uba, describing his death as a significant loss to the nation.
